In a vibrant cross-cultural initiative, Korean universities have collaborated with the Malaysian Embassy and the University Network for International Education (UNIE) to send a group of students to Malaysia for an ongoing English as a Second Language (ESL) summer camp. This program is currently being hosted by the University of Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), one of Malaysia’s leading institutions.

Kyunghee University has sent 27 students, Seoultech University has dispatched 14 students, and the Hanyang Erica campus has contributed 9 students, bringing the total number of participants to 50. These students are immersed in an intensive ESL program designed to enhance their English proficiency while experiencing Malaysia’s rich cultural diversity.

Beyond language education, the program includes a variety of extra-curricular activities such as intercultural exchanges, cultural experiences, and volunteer programs. These activities aim to enrich the student’s understanding of Malaysian culture and society, providing a holistic educational experience.

Additionally, the program offers a unique opportunity for MARA scholar students in UniKL, who are preparing to study abroad in Korea, to meet and interact with their future seniors. This interaction is expected to ease their transition and provide valuable insights into life and study in Korea.

Malaysia is increasingly becoming a popular destination for studying English due to its diverse culture, affordable education, and high-quality language programs. This initiative reflects the growing emphasis on international education and the importance of language skills in a globalized world. The program aims to improve the students’ English capabilities and foster cross-cultural understanding and international collaboration.

This ESL summer camp is the result of a proposal by UNIE, in partnership with the Malaysian Embassy, highlighting a strategic effort to build educational bridges between Korea and Malaysia. By facilitating meaningful interactions and shared experiences, the program helps strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries. The camp promises to be a transformative experience for the students, providing them with valuable skills and memories that will last a lifetime while promoting mutual respect and understanding between Korea and Malaysia.
